We just wanted to let our regular guests know that sadly we lost our older Labrador Charlie in February. He was thirteen and half. Charlie arrived at Spring Cottage just a few weeks after we did back in 2003 as an eight week old bundle of fluff and mischief! He was here to greet our first B&B guests in 2004 and became a favourite with visitors who came with doggy treats on their return visits and even sent him Christmas cards. He was a sensitive soul who seemed to know which guests were a little wary of dogs and he’d make himself scarce when they were here.
Our other Labrador, Jack, has been rather out of sorts since Charlie left us. Sleeping a lot, generally being a bit quiet, though still accepting cuddles off as many guests as he can! We’ve decided to adopt an unwanted dog to keep him company, it just feels the right thing to do and we think Charlie would approve – he loved other dogs.
Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs your heart is very big.” – Erica Jong
